Now Accepting Submissions for Issue #4
We accept original, previously unpublished works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, interviews, reviews, songs, spoken word and visual art. We will be reading submissions for Issue #4 from Jan 15 through March 15, 2017. In that issue we are also pleased to introduce a special section and a new column:
Dawnland Voices 2.0 seeks submissions to a tribute in memory of Mohawk poet Maurice Kenny. We welcome contributions from all writers (Native and non-Native, from the Dawnland and beyond) including poetry, essays, personal remembrances, photos, interviews, songs and artwork inspired by Maurice Kenny. Send contributions to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include “Memoriam” in the subject line.
We are also happy to invite contributions to our new “letters” feature, VOICES ON!, where you can speak to issues of concern to us all. For Issue #4, Spring 2017, the subject will be “Water and Life.” Indigenous people are taking the lead in protecting our water, as we see at Standing Rock. This has been true here in the Dawnland for at least 300 years, since Abenaki leader Polin stood against the dams being built on the River Presumpscot (“the river I belong to,”) and continues into the present with struggles at Penboscot, in Nova Scotia, and many other places. Please send your thoughts, stories, struggles, and dreams on Water to email@example.com. Include WATER in the subject line.
Poetry: please submit 1-3 poems via email attachment in Word.
Songs and Spoken word: please submit 1-2 pieces in mp3 or video link.
Fiction: no more than 5,000 words in Word attachment.
Nonfiction: no more than 5,000 words in Word attachment.
Visual Art: Please send 1-5 photos (jpeg, 72 dpi, no larger than 3MB)
All authors retain the rights to work they publish in Dawnland Voices 2.0, but we ask that you acknowledge us as the place of first publication.
