Now accepting submissions for Issue #7, including a special section: "Climate Change and the Indigenous View"
Dawnland Voices 2.0 is thrilled to announce that two eminent Wabanaki writers--Carol Bachofner and Mihku Paul--are assuming editorial leadership of the magazine. Carol Bachofner (Abenaki) has published numerous books of poetry and, among her many honors, served as the poet laureate of Rockland, Maine, from 2012-2016. Mihku Paul (Maliseet), author of 20th Century PowWow Playland, is also a teacher and visual artist. Please welcome these talented poet-mentors!
For their inaugural issue, we are open to the full range of submissions; but we are also looking to create a special section on climate change, called “Climate and the Indigenous View.” Specifically, what do your stories/poems/songs/visual art have to say about the kinds of extreme weather events that are growing increasingly common? How do people in your community (now, and traditionally) identify seasonal change?
Please send all submissions and queries to firstname.lastname@example.org. Send written work in Word attachments; visual art in jpeg; and music or spoken word in mp3 files.
Poetry: 3-5 poems
Prose: 5000 word limit
